Still Depths (Water) × The Beacon-Bearer

They burn for the ideal, but read the whole field before the fire catches.

The Beacon-Bearer runs forward with the torch held high, ready to burn down to nothing for the cause. Water reads the whole field before the fire ever catches, the depth lending the heat a slow, clear sight. So you charge with conviction like the others, but yours is backed by a strategy worked out underwater, devotion that knows the lay of the land before it commits. The flame is real. So is the map beneath it.

This is your edge over every other Beacon-Bearer on the chart. They flare on pure feeling and waste the sacrifice. You see clearly and burn anyway, so nothing you spend gets spent for nothing. Arcturus chases the light and never looks back, and you almost match it, except you read the ground once, fully, before you run. Conviction and clear eyes in the same body means the cause you carry actually gets somewhere.

Here is the catch the water builds in. You see so far down that, at the moment to move, the seeing cools the heat and you cannot bring yourself to act. The field is read, the case is clear, and you are still reading it. The rising Waxing Crescent is the first sliver after the dark, all forward momentum, none of it spent yet. Some fights ask you to stop reading the ground and just light the torch.
